Work on the Playa Mogan section of the motorway is now progressing quickly.This week there have been many disruptions to traffic on the GC 500 and this will be the norm for the next few months as the work proceeds.These roadworks only affect traffic travelling to Mogan Pueblo and so travellers going to the beach are mostly ok.

Playa Mogan is getting very busy now in the run up to the Christmas and New Year period. After the Christmas period things stay busy for the winter season with most Hotel rooms and self catering apartments fully booked until Easter. Although most accommodation is let and the days are very busy with tourists from other resorts in the evenings Mogan becomes relaxed once more. With daytime temperatures still in the Thirties Mogan is very pleasant place to spend the winter and the beach is very popular with the sun bathers and swimmers.

Garry Ewing and Joni Macdonald tie the knot in the little Canarian private chapel belonging to one of Playa Mogans oldest families.

With around 50 families and friends flying over from Scotland to join in the celebration.

It is a cross between a Spanish and a Scottish wedding.

They are Scottish and have brought Scottish pipers over to pipe the bride into the church.

The locals will never have heard or seen anything like it. All men in full Scottish costume, it will be a sight to see for there eyes

As Joni says she wanted a wedding with a difference but an ordinary wedding in a REAL place, With Spanish influence but with her own country ways included as well.

Well ! what more real can you get than the little old Canarian Church right in the heart of Playa Mogan.

She said the New Dallas style hotels were not for her not her style. And so resisted all attempts by wedding planners to get her going there way into one of the new big hotels ,and gave them the sack when they would not do her wedding the way she wanted it done, and done in the little chapel.

She ended up, with the help off her mother and the locals doing it all herself,and to her own satisfaction as any bride should have things done on her big day

The reception meal will be held in the Tu Casa Restaurant, another Real place of fine upstanding. It was the old family home of the owners of the little church, and the fruit barons of Playa Mogan when this place was once a fruit farm.

In between its Canapes and Cava on the Club De Mar Hotel roof, complete with entertainment by kind permission of Ricardo assistant manager there. This is where some of the photographs will take place

because of the fantastic setting it is in, high up with fantastic views of the sea all around.

NEW MOTORWAY CONNECTION TO PUERTO DE MOGAN

Well here we go progress is progress I suppose.!!!

They have started to drill the tunnels out now for the last leg into Puerto De Mogan. On the Puerto De Mogan side of the mountain.

It has been going on so long now all hidden behind the mountains inland away from the resorts, That not many people know about this last leg of the motorway into Puerto de mogan, from the end of where it ended in Tauro, just after Puerto Rico.

People are wondering if this is the start of the spoiling of this little gem on Gran Canaria.?

Yes it will get busier here there is no doubt about that. But the playa and the valley can only expand so far, it is such a small gem of a Place, surrounded by high mountains it can not expand anyway.

The mountains all around the bay are protected land and as such , no building will be allowed on the top of them anyway. So I really do not see how it can ever be spoilt.

Puerto de Mogan is the dead end of the main road around the island on the coast.The coastal area of land from Puerto de Mogan is protected land all the way to Aldea San Nicolas.

To travel the rest of the coast road around the island from Puerto De Mogan,you have to drive Inland from the playa quite some way, to get to the next coast road from Aldea San Nicolas about one hour in duration.

This is why Puerto De Mogan bay itself can not expand at all.

The end of the Motorway will come out of the mountains just past the petrol station outside of the bay itself at the start of the valley of mogan ,and will not be seen from the bay itself.

And you might think then that the valley itself will be ruined. No not so, no more building is going to be allowed by the regional government of spain in the valley of mogan. Only very few that already have been passed as building land. And they are very few indeed.And only for residential use at that. The valley has a garden centre in it. And El Cercado is a very small hamlet. A one eyed street of residences just past the local garden centre and situated amongst the fruit fincas of the valley, only 3 kilometres from the beach.

If you are lucky enough to settle here, you then have the best of both worlds. Living in the countryside in the peace and quiet , yet only 3 kilometres from where its all at.

El Cercado has distant views of the sea. When the motorway is completed, El Cercado will be one of the most sought after places on the island to live.To truly live a real life in Paradise.

So near the famous resort of (Little Venice) Puerto de Mogan, but far enough away to relax in the peace and quiet of the countryside all round.Truly living the Canarian lifestyle.

The local Co operative with its fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables. And The El Tanke Restaurant as well, to relax in Canarian Garden Style Restaurant are only a few minutes walk away, at the end of the street of this Unspoilt Little Hamlet.

It really is a pleasure to walk in the dusk to deposit your daily rubbish into the communal hamlet dustbin that is emptied every night 7 nights per week,Whilst looking at the twinkling lights of the resort of Little Venice in the distance, And serenaded all the way by the sound of the crickets all the way down the country lane. Then to go back and relax on your terrace drinking the Canarian grown, Ansite wine.

Up in the morning to watch the locals living here and working on there fincas, and a walk down to the co operative to buy, free range corn fed, truly golden yoked fresh eggs for breakfast.

And yet not far from the local supermarket that has everything you could ever need,even fresh just baked bread. And down to the port to buy some of the morning catch of fresh fish.

Ah!! Yes Paradise indeed.
